The Healing Power of Creative Rest: Why Creativity Matters for Wellbeing

In today’s fast-paced world, many of us spend our days focused on appointments, responsibilities, treatments and endless to-do lists. When facing a cancer diagnosis or supporting a loved one through their journey, it can feel even more difficult to find time to simply pause, breathe and reconnect with ourselves.

This is where creative rest and creative therapy can play an important role.

Creative activities such as painting, drawing, writing, crafting, collage and other forms of artistic expression offer much more than a pleasant pastime. They provide an opportunity to step away from worries and focus on the present moment. Engaging in creative activities can help reduce stress, improve mood, build confidence and create a sense of achievement.

Unlike many aspects of life, creativity has no right or wrong answers. There is no pressure to perform or produce something perfect. The process itself can be deeply therapeutic, allowing emotions to be expressed in a safe and supportive way. Many people find that creativity helps them process difficult experiences, reconnect with their identity and discover moments of joy during challenging times.

Research has shown that creative therapies can support emotional wellbeing, reduce anxiety and enhance quality of life for people living with cancer. Whether you’re an experienced artist or someone who hasn’t picked up a paintbrush since school, creative activities can offer a valuable space for relaxation, reflection and self-care.

At CancerWise, we believe that wellbeing involves caring for the whole person – mind, body and spirit. That’s why we’re delighted to offer opportunities for our community to explore creativity in a welcoming and supportive environment.

Join Our Creative Workshop with Christina

We’re pleased to invite you to our Creative Workshop with Christina on Monday 29th June at 1:00pm at the CancerWise Centre. This month we will be doing Still Life Painting with a special guest!

This relaxed and friendly session is open to anyone who would like to experience the benefits of creative rest, connect with others, and enjoy some dedicated time for themselves. No artistic experience is required—just bring an open mind and a willingness to explore.

The workshop will provide a gentle, supportive space to unwind, express yourself, and discover how creativity can contribute to your wellbeing.

Date: Monday 29th June
Time: 1:00pm-3:00pm
Location: CancerWise Centre

Places are limited, so please contact the centre if you would like to attend.

We look forward to welcoming you and sharing an afternoon of creativity, connection, and self-care.

Sometimes the most productive thing we can do is pause, create and give ourselves permission to rest.
